A question without
very clear answers: why is
the Sun so special?

AT THE STURDZA MONUMENT
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
The coat of arms of the former Principality of Moldova
(now West Moldova in Romania)
included the head of an aurochs with a star between its horns,
which was identified as the planet Venus.
But in the 1990s the Romanian astronomer Virgil V. Scurtu
launched another theory:
in fact, SN 1054, an impressive supernova recorded in 1054 in China
(which left remnants that became the Crab Nebula or the M1 Nebula -
the first object in the Messier Catalogue in 1771-1781),
was the real star from Moldova’s coat of arms,
placed right between the horns of the constellation Taurus.
On September 20, 2020
I travelled through a leafy time tunnel in the Cismigiu Park in Central Bucharest
and saw the old monument of a famous Romanian aristocratic family, Sturdza,
who gave two rulers in Moldova in the 19th century.
On that monument,
Sturdza’s blazon initially included the extract
with the horns and the star from Moldova’s coat of arms,
but now the star seemed ruined by the passage of time.
Just like the supernova of 1054.
Witness:
even the planet Venus!

SUNRISE OVER THE CITY
(Bucharest, October 24, 2020)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
“The Sun is defeated by clouds.”
“He is rather putting now on make-up.”
“Idiots, it’s just another show of the Sun.”

SOLAR SEQUENCES IN DAMBOVITA COUNTY
Astro-photo-poem by Valentin Grigore
October 23, 2020.
Green ray at sunrise and a deformed Sun.
November 1, 2020.
A boiling lake in the Chindia Park.
November 15, 2020.
A sunrise in the middle of November.
Then the Sun came down to sleep in the forest.
Good night.
December 3, 2020.
Meteorological winter with a sunspot.
December 14, 2020.
The flames of the sky
and the flame generator.

HOME PLANET
(Bucharest, October 27, 2020)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
I am a Martian visiting the Earth.
I arrived in Bucharest
and admired the Crowned Moon in cloudy weather.
Although we have a more advanced civilization,
I was impressed by the inventiveness of the Earthmen,
who signaled “star” on a building.
Then I watched the sky again
and saw an object with a stellar appearance near the Moon.
It was even my home planet,
Mars.

INSPIRATIONAL BUILDINGS
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
On November 1, 2020
I remarked in Bucharest
three interesting houses on the Constantin Rosetti Street
with some solar decors.
So interesting that on November 8 I dedicated them
a sunrise photo-series.
It was also interesting then
to see the Sun developing wings
to fly to enlighten our world,
especially buildings like these.

BEST POSITION
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
On November 5, 2020
I saw a vague parhelion on the right side of a tangent solar arc
and moved to the historical center to catch them
near the oldest Bucharestian church
(Saint Anthony the Great, made in the 1520s).
But once again I found there that, to accomplish something,
you must assume that the best position
is not always the most beautiful position.

BUCHAREST, OCTOBER 29, 2020
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
The Moon crossed the boulevard
and arrived in the park.
As she cannot have children,
she was impressed by a boy who played football alone.
She wanted to become his ball,
but she would have broken the laws of the Universe.
So finally she put a crown on her head,
resigned in her loneliness.

ELECTRIC FALLING STARS
(December 2-5, 2020)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
Cloudy beginning of December with sporadic sky images
(Sun, Moon, Mars…).
But that was not enough.
A Christmas tree and its light
blocked my nocturnal visions of the sky
for the next 30 days and more,
so I thought:
if I cannot leave Bucharest to see the meteor storms of the time
because of the pandemic
at least I can enjoy electric rains of falling stars:
Geminids, Ursids, Quadrantids…

GEMINIDS 2020 EXPEDITION
Astro-photo-poem by Valentin Grigore
(Special guest: Cosmin Sorin Miclos)
I eagerly waited for the Geminid meteor shower,
but when its time came, the sky was cloudy,
so together with Cosmin Sorin Miclos
(council member of SARM
and founder president of “Astronomer Disciple”)
I tried a “desperate” expedition in the last moment.
Thus, we went 230 km by car through rain and fog,
climbing on the “Transalpina” road to Ranca
in the Meridional Carpathians
(over 1500 m altitude).
Our “heroic” expedition was successful,
adorned finally by the views of the Novaci Relay,
Venus the “Morning Star”,
and a 22 degree halo
with a superior tangent arc
and a colored crown around the Sun.
Geminids 2020! Great show!
Snow: 50 cm.
Temperature: around 0 degrees.
Clear glass sky.
Strong red airglow.
Geminids in gusts!
And this green Geminid fireball of -6 magnitude,
with two explosions under the Milky Way
as sample of a final trip from space to Earth!
PS:
Cosmin made a selfie with both of us -
below.

Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
Yes, it’s hard, but we
should never abandon the
road toward the Sun

BUCHAREST, OCTOBER 31, 2020
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
The Moon wanted to help the earthlings during the pandemic
and bought an apartment in a block of flats.
Full and “blue”, she put a crown around her to orient herself better
and when she reached the city
she turned on the light.

VACATION HOUSE
(November 15, 2020)
Astro-photo-poem by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
“If you want a vacation house
on another heavenly body in the solar system
I suggest you to look for a pattern
in East Central Bucharest.” - said an employee of the Sun
(a solar reflection on a joyous old block
on the Queen Elisabeta (of Romania) Boulevard).
After I noticed a few samples,
I called even the Sun and told him what I want…
and the Sun led me
to the house of my dreams.
